Biography

Lisa Thompson, PhD, is an environmental health scientist and a family nurse practitioner. She is an Associate Professor at Emory University, with appointments in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health at the Rollins School of Public Health. Her research focuses on reducing household air pollutants that contribute to adverse reproductive and pediatric outcomes (low birth weight, preterm birth, child stunting and impaired cognitive development). For two decades, she has focused on household air pollution from solid fuel cookstoves in low-resource countries, beginning in 2002 as a graduate student in the late Dr. Kirk Smith's lab at University of California, Berkeley. She has worked on research projects in Guatemala since 2002. She serves as MPI of ECOLECTIVOS.

Fun fact: Dr. Thompson has a forest of camellia trees in her backyard with over 50 varieties of flowers. Her dog of hers Edith Gray likes to walk in her garden of hers.

She is a professor at Emory University, with appointments in the School of Nursing and the Department of Environmental Health in the School of Public Health. Her research focuses on reducing household air pollutants that contribute to adverse reproductive and pediatric impacts (low birth weight, preterm birth, infant growth retardation, and impaired cognitive development). For two decades, she has focused on household air pollution from solid fuel stoves in low-resource countries, beginning in 2002 as a graduate student in the laboratory of Dr. Kirk Smith at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Thompson has worked on research projects in Guatemala since 2002. She is the principal investigator of the project ECOLECTIVOS together with Dr. Saikawa.

Fun fact: Dr. Thompson has a grove of camellia trees in her garden, with more than 50 varieties of flowers. Her dog Edith Gray likes to walk in the garden.
